Burgas

The fourth largest Bulgarian city with 200,000 inhabitants and an international airport lies in the wide Burgas Bay. It is also the largest port on the southern part of the Bulgarian coast. It mainly exports ores, industrial and agricultural products and tobacco. It is a center of engineering, petrochemical, ceramics, textile and food production. Burgas has become a popular tourist resort. It offers visitors a busy center full of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. There are also several nice, wide beaches right in the city. Nature lovers will appreciate the possibility of hiking to four lakes outside the city limits.

Burgas is the fourth largest Bulgarian city with 200 thousand inhabitants. It lies on the Black Sea coast about 140 kilometers south of Varna and 400 kilometers east of Sofia. The place was settled only in the 17th century by Bulgarian and later Turkish fishermen, who built huts here during hunting. The place developed into a city during the Crimean War in 1856, when food, wood and salt were exported from there to Istanbul. The importance of the Bulgarian port increased after Varna lost Dobrudja as a hinterland after the Second Balkan War, which led to the decline of the port of Varna.

In the middle of the city there is a large pedestrian area with lots of cafes, restaurants, shops, exchange offices and banks. Here you will find an ancient stone Armenian church from 1853.

Northeast of the church is Trojkata Square with the Cathedral of St. Cyril and Methodius (St. Cyril and Methodius).

The seaside park serves visitors for entertainment and relaxation. A landscaped and maintained park with a canopy of leafy trees above a number of bistros and restaurants faces the sea, where it connects to the city beach.

In the greenhouse of the Rosenec forest park, exotic forest crops are grown - cedar, sequoia, pistachio, laurel, quinine.

There are many museums and galleries in Burgas. It is home to the Opera and Ballet Theater, the National Theater of Adriana Budevská and the Summer Theater. The city also has its own symphony orchestra. The Institute for Tourism Education operates here under the auspices of the United Nations.

The city is protected from the north by the ridges of the Stará planina, and therefore has a very mild climate, which makes a stay in the well-frequented spa more pleasant.

On the beach in Burgas lies iron sand, which causes its black-gray color.

Burgas is a very attractive touristic and romantic place with a cosmopolitan character. The harbor has become the destination of countless wandering tourists.

Burgas is surrounded by three large lakes - Burgas, Atanas and Mandren. Numerous rare water birds live on the shores of the lakes - flamingos and black storks. Salt is obtained from the Atanasovský lake by evaporation.

South of the mouth of the river, which drains Lake Mandrenské into the Black Sea, stretches the Strandžské coast.

From the nearby Cape Nos Atija, Cape Emine, the cities of Nesebar, Pomorie, Sozopol and the entire Gulf of Burgas can be seen at the same time.
